From the Health Office: It’s June and we will be having more and more sunny days. Check out the sun safety tips that will be running in the bulletin over the next couple of weeks. Whether you’re going to be outside for work or play, take care in the sun!

Sun Safety Tip #3:

Why should teens worry about the sun? Exposure to the sun increases the risk of all forms of skin cancer. Melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer, is the most common cancer in women aged 25-29. It is the sixth most common cancer in men of all ages. Blistering sunburns before age 20 increase the risk of melanoma two to five times. A blistering sunburn is red and painful to the touch for two or more days. Long term exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays increases the risk of the other two forms of skin cancer- basal and squamous cell carcinoma. Melanoma can be deadly because it metastasizes or spreads to other organs of the body. Basal and squamous cell carcinomas can be quite disfiguring.

Art Club: No art club on Thursday, June 10.
