Alternative Learning Program

The Alternative Learning Program (ALP) is a specific and separate Special Education program with in Northampton High School. The program provides educational and therapeutic support in the least restrictive environment for approximately twenty-five regular and special education students. The program is staffed by three content certified teachers, two of which are also special education certified, two educational support personal, a twice a week adjustment counselor, a fulltime masters level clinical intern and the District Social Worker.

The program operates on a daily schedule separate from Northampton High School. Students will attend four academic classes and one activity period. The program aims at providing a positive educational environment through individualized and differentiated instruction and a supportive therapeutic milieu. Teachers and staff will work with students by building on strengths and areas of interest as well working collaboratively with parents / guardians and community providers to maximize the opportunities for academic success.

It is the mission of The Alternative Learning Program (ALP) to provide individualized academic, emotional and behavioral support. It is our hope that students will become empowered with the knowledge that their success is based on their decisions. Students will consistently be reminded and supported of the relationship between academic success, emotions/behavior and decisions.
